Coe Lapossy Bio:

Coe Lapossy is a Boston based visual artist. Their work investigates how popular culture gets into your heart, your mind, and changes you. They received an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Tufts University. They have shown in, "Brink v2: Space and Intimacy" at The Boston Center For Arts and “Liking Is For Cowards. Go For What Hurts” at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Lapossy has received residencies at The Provincetown C-Scape Dune Shack Artist Residency and Grates Cove Artist Residency in Newfoundland Canada.  Their current projects look at stories taken from the movies, High Spirits, Prelude To A Kiss, and The Last Unicorn, all three focus on telling the story of romantic love outside the confines and limits of the human body. These stories and images are reinterpreted with a new cast of characters, through painting, sculpture, and performance.

“I use this necessity/strategy for editing in creating sculptures, videos, installations, and paintings that use sources from pop culture and art history - working to level hierarchies and infiltrate boys clubs. The editing tools include the obvious and archaic. An antique two-man saw is used to segment a solid mass of paint. A Polaroid camera is used to photograph projections of videos. xacto knives are used as often as paint brushes. Vinyl records are re-cast with paint, cut and reassembled. Through these methods the story of art history is reinterpreted with a inclusive queer feminist lens.” - Lapossy
