The Unexpected Encounters of Looking AgainNovember 28 - March 15, 2008
University Gallery’s annual exhibition, organized by M.A. candidates in Art History, utilizes the university’s significant collection of contemporary works of art on paper and corresponds with a graduate art history seminar. This year’s exhibition, curated by Rebecca Karp (M.A. ‘08 Art History), is organized in conjunction with Assistant Professor Mario Ontiveros’ seminar, “Problems in Contemporary Art: 1970’s to The Present”.
Exhibitions allow for unexpected encounters between the work of various artists and between the artwork and the viewer. Focusing on works in the University Gallery’s permanent collection, this exhibition invites viewers to consider the intimate relationship between the object to be looked at and those doing the looking. The exhibition features work by various artists including Dan Flavin, Alice Aycock, Robert Colescott, Anish Kapoor, Annette Lemieux, and Richard Serra.
A virtual “tour” of the exhibition and Web-based exhibition brochure will be designed by graduate student Justin Kemp (MFA ‘09), whose template will serve as the seed for our future on-line brochures and “tours” of the permanent collection.
