I am a printmaker working primarily on paper. Confronted with the physicality of the chair, I naturally approached it as a three-dimensional surface on which I could adhere prints. I created a faux wood texture in print to riff on the laminate wood of the original chair. To this I added images of magnified cellular structures and little bits of text. The faux wood grain refers to the original chair, while the text refers to the sitter. Mostly I wanted to take a mundane chair and make it attractive.
Take a Seat!
40 local artists and designers creatively paint, decorate, cut, drill, and embellish 40 chairs. The exhibition culminates in a fundraising party and silent auction of the chairs on February 28, 2016. Exhibition runs January 27 – February 28, 2016
