Carolyn Webb
Dialogue with a Collection
September 26 - November 4, 2007

This exhibition is the first in a series of exhibitions to take place at the University Gallery in which artists are invited to integrate their own works with pieces they select from the Gallery's works-on-paper collection, which includes over 2600 contemporary prints, drawings, and photographs. This premiere exhibition features work by Carolyn Webb alongside works she has selected and placed in direct dialogue with her own sculpture and works on paper.
Her installation comprises finely constructed and painted wood sculptures abstracted from nature, bronze casts, and wall-mounted works on paper that are at once corporeal and spiritual. Juxtaposed within Webb's installation, and resonating with her work, are prints and drawings by Anish Kapoor, Ad Reinhardt, and Joseph Cornell, among others.
Carolyn Webb is an artist based in western Massachusetts. She received her MFA from UMass, participated in numerous group shows, and has had solo exhibitions at Reeves Contemporary in NYC and the Widener Gallery at Trinity College, Hartford, CT.
