This weekend is a big one for the FAC – have you heard? Saturday is our 27th annual FAC  Gala, complete with live and silent auctions and a sneak preview of our next season. And the best part is you can dig deep in your closet for our Gala theme – Stayin’ Alive Since ’75! In honor of our 40th anniversary, we’re turning back the clocks with shag carpet, disco balls and music you’ll dance to all night. And of course, a five-star dinner and cocktails to keep you well fed while your browse the best auction items. Spend a great night with friends and support the FAC’s Arts/Access programs – tickets are still available !

And it’s time to set your Tivo for Friday night at 9 p.m. – FAC Director Dr. Willie Hill will be part of a Super Bowl 50 special on CBS! 50 years ago, Dr. Hill had the not-small honor of leading the first Super Bowl halftime show as the drum major for Grambling College, a historically black school. On the field, Grambling’s marching band merged and performed with the all-white University of Arizona band – a meaningful performance during a pivotal year in the Civil Rights movement. HAMPDEN GALLERY
50 Shades of Red is an exhibition curated collaboratively by Anne LaPrade Seuthe, director of Hampden Gallery, Kathleen Jacobs, Director of Blueway Art Alliance, and Trevor Richardson, Director of Herter Gallery. Together, they have selected a broad range of works (both abstract and figurative) from 50 artists, in which the color red - or some variant thereof - plays a dominant role in the creation of the finished image. Located in Herter Gallery, this exhibit opens with a reception on Sunday, February 28th from 2 to 4 p.m. and will be on view through March 24th.

 

Matt Wilson Quartet

 
  MAGIC TRIANGLE
Matt Wilson is one of today’s most celebrated jazz artists, universally recognized for his musical and melodic drumming style, as well as for being a gifted composer, bandleader, producer, and teaching artist. The Matt Wilson Quartet  with Kirk Knuffke, Jeff Lederer and Chris Lightcap, will perform in Bezanson Recital Hall on Thursday, February 28th at 8 p.m.

UNIVERSITY MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Question Bridge: Black Males explores challenging issues in the black male community by instigating a transmedia conversation across the geographic, economic, generational, educational, and social divisions of American society. Jazz In July musicians
 
JAZZ IN JULY
Jazz in July is a summer jazz workshop program where participants study jazz improvisation with master musicians. Anyone 15 or over can participate! The workshops are two one-week residencies that include individual and group training in both voice and instrumentation. Participants perform live in public performances alongside faculty and staff.
