Trish Crapo
The Presence of Absence

Comments

Christine Texiera: wow

Carolyn Roberts: Simply stunning Trish. The poems are moving and evocative. We’ve grieved so many in our family and I too have appreciated the remembrance of them through some of the objects they cherished, or just lived in. It brings grief and joy to gaze at them, rolling them in my hands, trying to tether some remaining essence to me. I’m so grateful to be reminded. One of Gene’s old hats still smells like him. We keep all those we’ve lost with us in their teachings, their love and belief in us and in these little objects that spark glimpses into who they were. I remember Margaret having the best laugh and a little sparkle in her eye while doing it like there was something she was keeping just for herself but giving you just a peak. Beautiful show-much to be proud of. I love the photo of the swimming grasses in the wind!

Elaine Reardon: A great and wonderful surprise to find this.

Lola Baltzell: Amazing. To be loved so fiercely by someone, by Trish. A blessing.

Tom Ashley: Nice show. Are prints available?

Terry Jenoure: This is exquisite. The feeling created from the sound of water, the wind in the dress, and these intimate words. Quite wonderful. Thank you!

Diane Dix: I am so grateful to have found this link through Leo Hwang. It's hard to explain why I find it hard to explain what I like so much about this because the more I think about the photos the more I could think about them and go deeper into the reality that there is so much of life we are missing and that there is beauty all around us. I loved the dance of the wind, and the white garment on the clothesline, the blue sky, the sounds of the surf, and the words. Beautiful choreography.

Anonymous: You are genius.

David Miller: These photographs say so much about how our spirits and hearts fill what seem to be "empty places."

Jamieson Thomas: Complex in its simplicity, tender in its ferocity, Trish has embraced grief with a celebration of absence of life in the presence of intense emotion through memory. Exquisite.

Anonymous: Beautiful photos - somehow peaceful, lonely, and comforting all at once.

Linda Sue Nathan: Wow... so beautiful and so moving Trish. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I watched and listened. Loss ... so poignant, so powerful. So well said. Love you, Linda

Marjorie Morgan: Beautiful, thoughtful and haunting work, Trish. Many thanks for diving deep. Congratulations. Best, Marjorie

Anonymous: Great selection of her work....captures light with incredible skill...

Bill O’Connell: Thank you, Trish: great to see your multi-media self on this platform! I admire your whole-artist approach.

Anne Woodhull: You say the name of all of it Trish, the white dress of your sister, the dignity of staying with her in this form too. Her ""genius balanced on error"". The sea is your background. What you hear when she hands you a mirror. You have made this sea freshness, this full love, this beauty all around us, so we can hear and see something. And we do Trish, we do. Love and thank you. Annie

Anonymous: That was very powerful and moving. I can identify with quite a bit of it. Thank you.

Anonymous: I love this exploration of loss.  The last line of the poetry is reverberating still: "if you can say my name, say it. Now." It's both that challenge to loved ones snatched away too soon and also the challenge of sister to sister---"I double dare you!". The slip in the wind-- such a perfect evocation of relationship between women in families both those we are born into and those we make. Plus just the words, slip in the wind. I am coming upon the 25th anniversary of my mother's death and this piece penetrated quickly.  All around beautiful perfect piece and it works so well in this format.

Mike Mauri: Hi Trish, I finally slowed down enough to attend this on-line exhibition and watch the movie - very nice! It was great to listen to your poetry read by you while watching the dress, clothesline and sky. And I'm glad to hear that "adrift" will be published soon! It has been a long time in coming. All very good!  -Mike

Nina Gross: Thank you!

Dianne Greenberg Penchina: Trish - I love it. Even more the second time. It is so poignant and I kept thinking of Back Then. So looking forward to your new poems xxx

Paul Lagrèze: Thank you for showing these photos and speaking these poems.

Diane Nassif: Thank you for this moving work.

Davis Bates: Very powerful and moving.  Thank you.

Lori Lynn Hoffer: What a treat in the middle of a day on the computer... to see a name that I know, and with a click to be led on a little journey of images and words. I truly enjoyed this exhibit, which seems to live very well as an online offering. Lovely Trish, thank you!

Debb Putnam: Beautiful, evocative work. So wonderful to have it available online.
