Philadelphia’s Philadanco returns to UMass Amherst as part of its celebration of 50 years as an African-American contemporary dance company, presenting a mixture of iconic Philadanco works from the past half-century, as well as new work that highlights their continued engagement with today's most important social issues. Among these new works is 2018's Endangered Species, a heart-wrenching piece that takes on police violence towards African-American males, as well as Super 8, Enemy Behind the Gates, and Folded Prism.

Police Violence and the Black Community: A Creative Response

Featuring Joe Gonzalez from PHILADANCO in conversation with Amy Jordan and Touissant Losier from the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies.
