Masterful trumpeter Sean Jones has been turning heads in the jazz world for two decades. He has eight critically lauded records to his credit as a bandleader. He’s a former lead trumpeter for Wynton Marsalis’s Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He spent two years as a member of the SFJAZZ Collective. And he’s recorded and shared stages with such prominent jazz artists as Illlinois Jacquet, Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Gerald Wilson and Marcus Miller. Perhaps most notably, Jones was the trumpeter selected by Miller, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter for their Tribute to Miles tour in 2011. Jones is also an internationally acclaimed music educator. He’s served since 2018 as chair of jazz at Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute. And before that, he was chair of the Brass Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He also serves as Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall's education program NYO Jazz. This performance featuring his latest quartet will cap Jones’ visit with the annual UMass Amherst High School Jazz Festival.
