Volunteers

Want to meet people, share a skill, get to know us from the inside, and really make a difference? Then why not consider a volunteer position at the Fine Arts Center? Our volunteer programs welcome community members into the day-to-day operations at the Center. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged throughout the Fine Arts Center.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week April 19-25, join us in celebrating our UMass Fine Arts Center volunteers, from our Board and Gala volunteers to Valley Jazz Network and the many ushers who help out at our performances!

Fine Arts Center Ushers

Our ushers are a vital part of our "front-of-house" team for performing arts performances. You'll work with a professional staff, including a House Manager, to welcome and seat patrons, distribute programs and help keep traffic into the performance halls flowing smoothly. You'll be asked to commit to a minimum of six performances each semester, most of which are in the evening, plus training sessions. Events include Center Series, the Global Arts daytime performances for children and Asian Arts & Culture programs.

For information on ushering opportunities click here or call our Audience Services Manager at 413-545-0192.

Gala Committee Volunteers

FAC’s Gala, Auction & Preview is the Center’s largest fundraising event.  It is organized by a volunteer committee under the supervision of FAC’s Community Relations Manager.  The group ranges from 10-20 persons and includes FAC board members as well as other community members.  The committee is chaired by a FAC board member who also sits on the Board’s Executive Committee.

The event is traditionally held the first Saturday in February.
The FAC Gala planning is a year-round endeavor with one, one-hour meeting per month. The format of the event is currently black-tie/formal, reserved seating, a served three-course dinner with pre-dinner cocktail/appetizers and post-dinner desserts and finger food.  There are live and silent auctions and preview of FAC’s performances.

The goal of this event is three-fold:
     1.Raise funds for FAC’s Access/Arts programs
     2.Educate & engage current and prospective patrons/donors
3.Create a “buzz” within the community about the event and Access/Arts programs
