"Ms. Yin is a dancer of exquisite lyricism and delicacy" -Jennifer Dunning, New York Times. Yin Mei- a dancer-choreographer from China, now residing in the U.S. has built her dance style on martial arts and primal emotional drives and responses, blending traditional form with contemporary impulse. /Asunder is a collaboration between Yin Mei, composer Robert Een, visual artist Cai Guo-Qiang, and poet Mark Strand. /Asunder explores notions of love - and the striving towards and emotional and spiritual understanding of love- based on a Ming-dynasty poet Xu Wen Chang's tale of an ambitious Buddhist monk who ruins his chances for enlightenment by falling in love. Now reincarnated as a female prostitute, the monk finally sees that the quest for emptiness in her previous life was another form of lust. /Asunder is a journey of seeking, losing, and gaining sight and insight. Exquisitely rendered to bring the feeling of this experience to the audience.
