Artist’s Statement:
These paintings derive from the experience of coming upon a pool of water in the woods. Unruly, the activity of temperature and breeze is quieted and held, momentarily, within the pool. A piece of bright sky melds with shadows while reflections shift and float. The surface and substance of the painting mimics the activity in the pool, where elements in disarray must find order. Both the pools and the paintings, with their inverse compositions, are distillations, wishes, to seize clarity while chaos, embodied by the infinity of elements, encroaches from outside and bubbles up from underneath.
