Born in Toronto, Jane Bunnett has devoted much of her professional life to the rich music of Cuba. Her latest project, Maqueque (“the spirit of a young girl”), pairs the gifted soprano saxophonist and flutist with some of Cuba’s most accomplished young female musicians. “If they’re coming anywhere near your town, go see them,” writes Jon Garelick. Bunnett will be joined by Dánae Olano, piano; Celia Jimenez, bass; Elizabeth Rodriguez, violin and vocals; and Magdelys Savigne, percussion.
