REFLECT

Sunday, April 3 - Tuesday, May 3, 2005
REFLECT This site-specific installation combines the stage like setting of the Hampden Gallery lobby with the performance aspects of Chris Nelson's work. Using lightweight plastic film, fine colored silk, and air currents, Nelson captures the essence of nature through synthetic means. Blue-green iridescent silk dances within a black void behind a scrim of translucent plastic allowing viewers to see only a ghostly image of flowing color. Like many of Nelsons installations, this is done in a direct and minimal way. By using the elements of light, shadow, space, and movement, a quiet, subtle, intimate space is created in which viewers can spend time.
