Dialéctica Oaxaqueña
October 2 - 24, 2018
Opening Reception: Tuesday, October 2, 5-7 pm
Mexican printmaking gallery Estampa Galería
is comprised of seven highly skilled artists dedicated to the promotion of contemporary graphic art of their capital city Oaxaca. On view are works on paper that display honor for animals, people and plants as well as symbolic tributes to spirituality.
The project was born in 2009 in the neighborhood of San Jerónimo Yahuiche as a community engraving workshop. Looking to find a larger audience, it moved to the historic center of Oaxaca City and adopted the organizational structure of a cooperative in order to encourage collective discussion and dissemination of artwork. The featured artists are teachers and community leaders who work tirelessly and with passion. And on the corner of a busy street in the heart of a bustling metropolis, Estampa Galería
is an intimate space where graphic ideas and techniques converge. Through their vision, the artists seek to shorten the distance between the artist and viewer as they express themselves through a range of social issues as well as lighter topics of cultural interest. .
