The New England Premiere Tour by Butoh dance duo of Itto & Takeuchi Mika
The Butoh dance duo GooSayTen was founded in Sapporo in 1993. Since that time, they have performed to audiences in Germany, Poland, France and Canada. Founder, Morita Itto, also professor of psychology at Sapporo Gakuin University, has developed a dance method for psychosomatic exploration and integration. Together with dance partner, Takeuchi Mika, the duo has performed also in a therapeutic capacity in prisons, mental institutions, and in private dance/movement sessions. Currently the director of the Japanese Dance Therapy Association, Itto is at the cutting edge of a new frontier that includes therapeutic psychology, performing arts, and theories of body-mind. Given the various facets that Itto brings to Butoh dance, this duo would provide and excellent opportunity for the people of New England to learn about contemporary forms of Japanese artistic expression.
Presented in collaboration with the Japan Society of Boston, and the Five College Dance Department
