A stellar and thoroughly entertaining exemple of Bollywood masala (spicemix) moviemaking, with beautiful singing and dancing woven throughout the love triangle story: The daughter of a famous classical singer falls in love with one of her father's music students, but the disapproving patriarch arranges her marriage to another man. The film's contemporary scoring (music by Ismail Darbar, lyrics by Mehboob) draws from Rajasthani folk music. 188 minutes, in Hindi with English subtitles
Films have been selected by Professor Ann Ciecko, Department of Communications
