Jenny Tibbetts: Incandescence

Artist's Statement
Color has its own beauty. It has expressive power, free from descriptive function. In this exhibit of abstract paintings, I punctuate strikingly bright colors with smaller shapes of contrasting hues. My color juxtapositions use both soft transition and high contrast, to create a glowing luminosity or incandescence. I focus on the painterly facts of composition such as color intensity, opacity and translucency, distribution of strokes across the surface, and the evolution and evolution of shapes. My compositions have a loose underpinning of geometry, offset by gestural strokes of spontaneous brushwork. Ultimately, I approach painting intuitively, and any visual impressions of nature by the viewer are associative rather than pictorial.
Closing Reception: May 4, from 5 - 7 PM
When: Sunday, April 24 - Wednesday, May 4
