Milford Graves began playing the drums when he was three years old. He was fascinated by the congas and the tablas and quite happy performing in various local Latin-tinged dance bands. But after witnessing a John Coltrane gig, Graves decided to start concentrating on creating his own music. Among his very first album releases is a veritable percussive landmark: "Dialogue of the Drums", which was masterminded in 1974 in cahoots with Andrew Cyrille.
