Re-Orient Festival

Friday, September 30, 2005

Curtain Theater   8:00 pm
$5 general, $2 students

Excerpts of plays selected for the 2005 Re-Orient Festival and highlights from past Festivals will be rehearsed and presented in staged readings by student actors under the direction of Torange Yeghiazarian, who will be in residence for a week at the university. Actors and audiences alike will be able to explore plays that shatter stereotypes and go beyond the headline to explore the Middle Eastern experience. In November, some of the plays will then be professionally produced for the six-week long Re-Orient Festival of plays at Golden Thread Productions, the theater founded by Ms. Yeghiazarian and “dedicated to placing the Middle East center stage." Past Golden Thread Re-Orient productions have included works by Israel Horowitz, Naomi Wallace, Yussef El Guindi, Leslie Ayvazian and many more. In September 2004 the company was invited to bring El Guindi's Karima's City to the Cairo International Experimental Theater Festival. (Presented in collaboration with Theater Department)
