Sarah Meyers Brent
Living Paint
Incubator Project Space
September 2 – 30, 2014
Opening Reception: Sunday, Sept. 7, 2 - 4 pm
Sarah’s works explore the viscous ooze at the creation and termination of life. Using
globs of dried paint, recycled fabric, paint rags, and decaying flowers, her mixed-media
pieces flow out of and accrete to the canvas and walls. In the dialogue between the
themes of growth and decay pervading her paintings, sculptures, and collages, Sarah’s
works are themselves in a state of flux, as if going in though their own degradation. Sarah
believes that “In this age of technology, when we are steps removed from nature it is
important for art to allow the viewer to experience what is alive and physical.”
Sarah Meyers Brent maintains a studio practice at Joy Street Studios in Somerville. Her
paintings are currently on display at the Boston Exhibition Center and at the Walter
Feldman Gallery, where she is a finalist for the Walter Feldman Fellowship. Recent
exhibits include the “The Departed” (The Distillery Gallery, Boston), “The A.I.R.
Biennial” (A.I.R. Gallery, Brooklyn), and “Pretty Ugly” (Cambridge Arts Association),
where she was awarded a juror’s choice award. Sarah was twice awarded residencies
at Vermont Studio Center where she received an Artist Resource Trust Grant and was
a “25 at 25 Fellow.” Her paintings are part of the private collections of Katherine
French (Director, Danforth Museum of Art) and the Liquitex Corporate Collection. After
completing her B.F.A. at Skidmore College, Sarah continued her graduate studies at
Brandeis University and then at University of New Hampshire, where she received her
M.F.A.
