Shifting, curated by Sue Katz, is an exhibition of five artists from the Northeast who expand the ancient art of encaustic painting with pigmented wax into edgy new territory. These artists are part of the revival of encaustic painting and will provide viewers with a show of two- and three- dimensional art incorporating wax. This mid October weekend, "Encaustic Extravaganza" features an opening reception and a performance titled "HOT WAX" by Kim Bernard on Saturday, October 15, and a talk/demonstration with all five artists on Sunday, October 16.

Shifting Sue Katz

Sue Katz

Katz shifts toward the viewer's experiential space, from on the wall to off and through space, by extending painting to sculpture made of paint and found objects.

Open Book is a series of mixed-media works on paper exploring the paradox of the "book with no words" a template-like image in book form, layered expanses of ambiguity.

Shifting Kim Bernard

Kim Bernard

Continuing to explore movement, Bernard makes paintings by pouring hot wax from a pendulum, sculpture that spins, and her own body experience motion by sky diving.

Shifting Toby Sisson

Toby Sisson

Incised lines, graphite, a palette of monotype markings in nuanced black and white - all typify Sisson's way in to her textured world about our environment and human condition.

Shifting Donna Talman

Donna Talman

Talman, painter and photographer, works with vertical textured and colored lines, paths guiding us on a visual and spiritual journey unifying body, mind, and soul.
