Tazieh: Iranian Theater Traditions

Thompson 104 7:00 pmTazieh is an ancient and uniquely Iranian passion play that reenacts the martyrdom of Hussain, grandson of the prophet Muhammad, in the desert of Karbala. Yeghiazarian will discuss the form and talk about how images of battles fought 13 centuries ago strongly resonate today in the Middle East. Her company is creating an interdisciplinary multi-media performance piece exploring Tazieh as a reflection of 21st Century realities in the Middle East and around the world.
