The Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Ma$50 per person; Umass students $35 per person
Join the tour to visit a fascinating 200 year-old house built originally by a Chinese merchant in the hamlet of Huang Cun in eastern China. Slated for demolition by the local authorities, the house was bought by the Peabody Museum complete with furnishings. The house was taken apart in 3,707 pieces that were shipped to Salem in 1997 and re-assembled as a 16 bedroom house with ornate lattice windows, carved dragons and fish ponds at the Peabody Essex Museum. For those interested in art and architecture this is a must see. Bus leaves Umass Robsham Visitors Center at 8am and returns by 6pm. Lunch is not included as there are numerous restaurants on the Museum Square. Tour is limited in size so please reserve your seat early to avoid disappointment.
