THE SOUTH ASIAN CONNECTION: REZ ABBASI BAND JAZZ CONCERT
Saturday, September 29 at 8PM Fine Arts Center Concert HallThe Indian Students Association (ISA) & South Asian Students Association (SASA) present a special music event to welcome Chancellor Subbaswamy and new students from South Asia: A singular Indo-American quintet that includes a fantastic line-up of some of the most celebrated young jazz musicians today: Rez Abbasi (Guitar), Vijay Iyer (Jazz piano), Sameer Gupta (drums) Mark Turner (saxophone) and Francois Moutin (bass). These young jazz “greats” currently, hitting the high note world-wide, receive amazing reviews, interviews on NPR and are featured in high-end jazz and music magazines and are the recipients of prestigious awards, performing with the greatest Jazz players.
The UMass Indian Students Band “AUM GROWN” with its lively mix of vocals and instrumentals drawing from South Asian and Western music influences will open for the Rez Abbasi Band.
Orientation for in-coming graduate students will be 6:15-7:30PM in the Fine Arts Center Lobby.
Join us to celebrate this occasion as the East meets West in music and people.
