Chinese Theatre Works: Toy Theatre Peony Pavilion
Thursday |
Bowker Auditorium at 10AM Tickets $7
CTW’s award-winning Toy Theatre Peony Pavilion combines excerpts of the authentic 16th Century Chinese Kun Opera
with song, dance, music and costume. In a performance that alternates live narrative sections with the western,
toy theatre style of puppetry we follow young maiden Du Liniang into her dreams beneath the Peony Pavilion,
where she is introduced to her future husband by the flower fairies. After waking, she pines away for him and
dies of a broken heart. Will true love rescue her from the underworld? Toy Theatre Peony Pavilion features English
dialogue and authentic Chinese songs.
